Last book of the year

I made it to 65

My Soul to Lose by Rachel Vincent

Granted it was a really short prequel that I downloaded to my Kindle for free, but I figure I made up for it with the 900+ pages of Echo in the Bone I read a couple of months ago!

Almost done for the year

Here are the last books of the year...

A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. Have I mentioned how much I LOVE being able to down load FREE books to my Kindle to read? It is awesome!

The Prayers of Agnes Sparrow by Joyce Magnin. This was another free download to my Kindle and I enjoyed it.

What the Dog Saw and other adventures by Malcolm Gladwell. This is a collection of some of his New Yorker articles. Definitely thought provoking, as usual!

I would like to get one more book read to get me to 65 books for the year. Not that it really matters, but that seems like a nice, round number!

This makes 61...

books read so far this year. I got through:

Prodigal Summer by Barbara Kingsolver

Despite a kind of slow start for me, I really enjoyed it. I was bummed to miss the bookclub meeting where it was discussed, but since I wasn't quite done with it and was feeling really cruddy from whatever virus is incubating inside me, I think it was for the best!

Freaky fun

Peeps by Scott Westerfeld

was definitely a good one. Lots of talk of parasites...I can always get excited about a good parasite!

Gregor and the Code of Claw

So here's what's new in my reading world

Gregor and the Prophecy of Bane by Suzanne Collins

I must have enjoyed it because I already have the next one on my nightstand!

The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows

I have had this one on my Kindle for a while and finally got around to reading it. It wasn't my favorite book ever, but it was enjoyable.

What a talented writer...

Anyone who has had a conversation with me in the last year that had anything to do with books knows how much I loved Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. I enjoyed Catching Fire just as much and can't wait for book 3. But in the meantime I have to be content with reading other things so I decided to try Suzanne Collins's Gregor series. It didn't grab me as much as her others but I did REALLY like:

Gregor the Overlander by Suzanne Collins

and am headed to the library tomorrow to get books 2 and 3. This woman is a talented writer and I am definitely ready to read another Underland adventure!

This was a long one...

I have been waiting and waiting for this book but remembered why there is so much time between publishings of the books in this series - they are long! But I did enjoy (almost!) all of the 800+ pages and will (im)patiently wait for the next one!

An Echo in the Bone by Diana Gabaldon

Slowing down

I am in the middle of a 900 page book, so there is not much action in the "completed" category! I did finish

The Idiot Girl's Action-Adventure Club by Laurie Notaro.

This one was funny. Not as funny as "Flaming Tantrum of Death", but still funny.

And maybe I have read something else. Or maybe not. Maybe I will remember someday...I did read two People magazines - that is some quality literature, you know.

This makes 48...

Ransom by Julie Garwood

2nd Chance by James Patterson and Andrew Gross
3rd Degree by James Patterson and Andrew Gross
It looks like reading the first one for book club has sucked me in...

Finger Lickin' Fifteen by Janet Evanovich
I was already sucked into this series...more of the same, but still entertaining! Any book that makes me laugh out loud is worth my time!

Great book!

Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins.
I can't believe the second was as good as the first, but it was! I read it in one day. I was up until 3:30 am finishing it. I just couldn't put it down.

Good books

Outliers: The Story of Success by Malcolm Gladwell
A great read - of course I seem to enjoy just about anything by him as he always has a different way of looking at things.

Revolutionary Road by Richard Yates
Not an uplifting book but it should lead us into some great discussions at bookclub.

Lazy B: Growing Up on a Cattle Ranch in the American Southwest by Sandra Day O'Connor and H. Alan Day
Another bookclub book...

How can I not be reading more than this?!?!?!

It seems like I read for hours and hours at night (that insomnia is a bad deal!) but somehow I don't seem to be getting through many books...

Wideacre by Philipa Gregory

Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen
I must admit that this was my first Jane Austen - I enjoyed it more than I thought I would so I may have to add another of hers to my to be read pile.

Another book

I just finished:

The Kid (What Happened When my Boyfriend and I Decided to get Pregnant) by Dan Savage.

I probably wouldn't have read it if it hadn't been a book club book becasue I never would have found it, but I am glad I did. It was funny and interesting and really shed a whole new light on open adoption for me.

Reading like crazy!

I have been LOVING the pile of books I got for Christmas. The problem is that I don't get enough sleep since I stay up WAY too late reading. So far this year I have gotten through:

The Heretic's Daughter by Kathleen Kent

Twilight by Stephenie Meyer

New Moon by Stephenie Meyer

Eclipse by Stephenie Meyer

The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins
