Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides.
This book is about a hermaphrodite who was raised as a female but was genetically male. I think the thing I enjoyed the most about it is that it was fiction that still felt kind of like nonfiction. I can't really explain this book but I did enjoy it. And it won a Pulitzer, so I obviously wasn't the only one who thought it was pretty good.
My Soul to Take by Rachel Vincent
This is part of a YA series...maybe not classic literature but still a fun, quick read.
The Memory of Running by Ron McClarty
I read this book for bookclub...a great story about a single, overweight, in-a-dead-end job man whose parents and sister die. He ends up sort of accidentally embarking on a cross country bicycle journey. I particularly enjoyed it because although it delved into the emotional lives of the main character, it wasn't overly introspective or sappy.

Wow. You're cranking them out this year. I seem to be in a real reading slump here.
I'm glad to hear you enjoyed Middlesex. That one is on my unofficial list of books I really hope to get to this year. (Of course, that unofficial list contains far more books than I know I'll manage to read.) A friend of mine has been trying to get me to read Middlesex for a while, as it's one of her all-time favorite books.
